For Crystal View Technology (CVT), SBSI is an easy fix to a common issue, rapid transition and government contracts flush with IT.
The Situation
In the heated climate of doing business with the federal government, contact awards can come at a moments notice. Once awarded there is an expectation of aggressive transition, and immediate ramp-up.  For a small business this can stretch resources to the limit.

The Client
Crystal View Technology (CVT), an 8(a) Corporation, with over 30 offices in the United States and office in Cuba, Iceland and Puerto Rico, does contracts for the Federal Government as well as private corporations. CVT’s contracts range from general facilities management, document control and property management to administrative support services.
Note:(8(a) is a federal government classification of a small disadvantaged, minority owned business)

The Problem
CVT acquired two government contracts in the San Diego area which entailed property management and document control. CVT was in need of a subcontractor with knowledge of the working environment who could help them with IT Services.  The key deliverables of the contracts were managing federal government property, and management of administrative records, CVT was consumed with these objectives and needed outside resources to focus on the IT objectives.

Where SBSI Comes In
Shaw Binary Systems, Inc. (SBSI) had previously experience working as a subcontractor on the property control system and was familiar with key participants both with the incumbent contractor and the government.  CVT met with SBSI to discuss the transition objectives and was impressed with SBSI’s previous performance.  CVT concluded that by using SBSI the IT requirements would be a non issue, allowing them to focus all their resources on the core deliverables.

The Solution
A relationship that started as a subcontract for government contracts grew into a partnership such that every department at SBSI has worked with CVT.  Once again, SBSI's ensemble of business units performed in every aspect with CVT.

(a) IT Services: for CVT’s government projects, SBSI’s IT Services business unit has facilitated WAN implementation, managed and monitored their networks, provided national branch office desktop support, and server administration and support. For commercial projects, SBSI’s IT Department has helped CVT with server builds, firewall/network management and desktop support.

(b) Business Automation:
SBSI’s Business Automation business unit (programming) performed complete system upgrades and enhancements the Property Control System (PCS). These upgrades not only improved the user's interface and business logic, but also upsized the data base from MS-Access to SQL Server. Business Automation additionally provided maintenance support to the NEMFac.com web portal that was built on the pervious contract with Bechtel as prime for the federal government.

(c) Managed Services:
SBSI’s Managed Services hosts the server farm for the Property Control System (PCS) and the from end client portal NEMFac.com.  Additionally Managed Services monitors and manages the property management facilities national network infrastructure.
